Gill Haskell, principal dentist at Tutbury Dental Practice, Burton

I qualified from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1989 with Honours and Distinction.  Following my first position in Belper, I joined Tutbury Dental Practice in 1990.  As the current director and principal dentist I have developed a wide and loyal patient following over the years, and have worked hard to build the team and the excellent reputation that our practice now enjoys.   

Alongside general dentistry and the treatment of children I have a special interest in smile design and facial makeovers. My ethos of continual development and training has seen me complete the Advanced Restorative Course with Paul Tipton in Manchester in 1997. In 1999 I obtained a Diploma in General Dental Practice and became a fellow Member of the Royal College of Surgeons.

I have recently trained with the world famous dentists Ash Parmar and Rahul Doshi of Extreme Makeover television fame at The Perfect Smile Academy in Hertfordshire. I also have a special interest in facial aesthetics and am fully trained in the advanced techniques for reduction of lines and wrinkles using Botox and dermal fillers such as Restylane.

I joined Tutbury Dental Practice in 1997, shortly after qualifying from Birmingham University. I have enjoyed providing comprehensive family dental care over the years, ranging from prevention to more advanced treatments. I regularly attend dental courses in order to keep up to date with the latest developments within dentistry and I gained my diploma in Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners in 1999.

I qualified from Birmingham University in 1988 and have 23 years experience in general practice. I enjoy providing my patients with excellent customer service and high level of clinical expertise in a calm and gentle atmosphere. I particularly enjoy providing aesthetic restorations such as white fillings and cosmetic crowns. I have an interest in minimal intervention for your dental care and I am enthusiastic about my continued professional development with a commitment to ongoing education to keep abreast of all new developments in dentistry.

I was born in South Africa where I qualified as a dentist and gained more than 11 years experience in different settings including hospital, university, private practice, and the military. I consider myself to be hardworking and enthusiastic with the drive to empower patients with the knowledge and skills to help them become orally aware and dentally fit for life. I am committed to lifelong learning and achieved a Masters in Prosthetics in early 2010.

I qualified from Birmingham in 1989 and worked as an associate for over eight years in a dental practice in Rugby. In 1998 I bought a dental practice in Derby and ran it successfully for 14 years. After selling, I stayed on to support the new owners in their transition.

Being ready for a new challenge, I joined Tutbury Dental Practice in November 2012. With over 23 years in dentistry I feel I am well placed to bring my skills and experience to this practice where I hope to become a valuable member of the team. I enjoy all aspects of general dentistry and work regularly for the emergency dental services in Derby.

In my spare time I enjoy a variety of sports including rugby, squash, mountain biking and running.I am the chairman of Melbourne Rugby Club & a qualified referee and play for the vets when family and work allow!

Dental therapist

Our dental therapist, Hannah Parker BSc Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy (Birm) GDC reg no 113705 has more than 25 years' experience of treating adults and children. Hannah works alongside principal dentist Gill Haskell to ensure treatment is delivered in a responsive way and carries out a range of procedures including routine fillings, applying fluoride and fissure sealants and taking dental radiographs.

The hygienists

Keeping your mouth spotlessly clean and your gums healthy is what our superb hygienists do best. The bacterial plaque that builds up between visits will be removed, ridding you of the plaque that contributes to decay, gum disease and bad breath. Our hygienists, Kerry Seamark RDH (GDC 2778) and Sue Bonsall RDH (GDC 1497), will teach you how improve your oral health routine at home and show you how to use the right inter-dental products for your mouth. The care and advice they provide will prolong the life of your teeth and give you a brighter, fresher, healthier smile. They also provide treatment for sensitive teeth and fissure sealant coatings.

Practice Manager

Our practice manager Lisa Tabbernor (GDC 156629) started her career as a dental nurse in 1989 where she gained experience in private and NHS practices and in the emergency dental service. She gained her first dental practice manager role in 2005. She has continued her registration as a qualified dental nurse and keeps up to date with continued professional development, which encompasses clinical and non-clinical aspects, to ensure her success in the management role.

The nursing team

Nurse supervisor, Andrea Faulks, leads our team of fully qualified and experienced dental nurses, who play an important role at our practice and are responsible for maintaining strict cross-infection controls to ensure patients and the clinical team are suitably protected. They are very knowledgeable and endeavour to put patients at ease to create a comfortable experience.

The reception team

Leanne Wroughton, an experienced dental nurse who is also qualified in radiography, is our reception supervisor. She leads our team of genuinely friendly receptionists, whose main role is to make your visit a pleasant, relaxing and happy one.
